Own what you build.
The Bushido Collective is a worker-owned cooperative. Capitalism rewards capital, money invested earns a durable claim on what it builds. Labor is usually just rented. We exist to correct that: here, a labor investment earns ownership the same way a capital investment does, directly, durably, and without the fine print designed to take it back.
Read the manifesto behind the idea
The promises we make to a member
Earn ownership by doing the work
Contribution is the source of your stake, not capital, not seniority, not favor. You earn it by building.
Vests when earned, never clawed back
No cliffs, no transaction gates, no schedule designed to make your stake disappear. What you've earned is yours, even if you leave.
Share in everything, not just your project
Equity is pooled. A win anywhere in the portfolio reaches every member, your risk and reward belong to the whole, not to whoever was staffed where.
Move freely
Go from engagement to engagement, responsibly, without forfeiting a thing. You're a member of the Collective, not a hostage of any one company.
One member, one vote
The newest member and the founder are equals in the room. Tenure earns a louder voice only insofar as others choose to listen.
Removed only for cause
Not for disagreement, not for being outvoted, not for a bad quarter, only for serious, proven breach, with a fair hearing. Even then, what you earned stays yours.
Real benefits while you're active
Members who are duefully employed and staffed on an engagement get employee-grade benefits, healthcare and the rest, for as long as they're active. Ownership is forever; benefits run with active work.
No hidden teeth
Our arrangements say what they mean. No fine print engineered to quietly take back what you earned, the absence of it is the point.
Earn, compound, create
Three things, each feeding the next, a machine for founding companies owned by the people who make them.
Assemble complete leadership
Complete leadership for founders: technology, culture, and business acumen together, so good ideas reach life without burning capital on bad decisions.
Hold pooled equity
Hold pooled equity in the companies we serve, so the risk and reward of any venture belong to all members, whether they coded it, coached it, or both.
Incubate our own
Spin our own ideas into companies, owned in part by the members who built them.
The eight virtues
We take our name and our conduct from Bushido, the warrior code rendered for people who build rather than fight. These aren't decoration. They're the bar for membership and the test of our decisions.
Gi
Integrity, no hidden teeth in anything we promise.
Yū
Courage & grit, build what others said couldn't be built.
Jin
Benevolence, our strength exists to lift those around us.
Rei
Respect, structural here, not merely mannered.
Makoto
Honesty, say what's true, even against our own interest.
Meiyo
Honor, the one asset we can't rebuild if lost.
Chūgi
Loyalty, when one of us succeeds, all of us share in it.
Jisei
Self-control, judgment over impulse, always.
Founding-level operators
We don't carry a bench. The Collective grows per engagement, we bring in the right operator for the problem in front of us. If you've operated at a founding level, whether your depth is technology, people and culture, or business, and you've owned the calls that are expensive to get wrong, we'd like to know you.
Admission turns on two things only: craft and competence for the work, and alignment with the Code. A member is sponsored, reviewed by the Membership Committee, and admitted by a vote of the members. You earn from your first day; your equal vote activates after a short onboarding.
More than an engineering team
We don't just assemble engineering teams. We install the leadership, decision-making, and culture that technology companies have proven works. Now AI is forcing every company to become one. Whether you're a traditional business modernizing, a startup scaling fast, or an established company stuck five years behind, we bring three capabilities in concert:
Technology
Seeing what's possible, what's broken, and what actually matters.
People and culture
Building teams that stay, trust each other, and know what they're solving for.
Business
Decisions shaped by what moves the needle, not what looks impressive.
Members specialize in one or two of these. Engagements almost always need all three. That's why we're a collective: a founder gets the full toolkit, not a specialist with blinders on.
Tell us what you've operated
The companies and systems you've led, the stage you operate best at, and why the Collective. We read every application personally.
